Where Were You?
I had another post set to go out this morning, but in light of this weekend’s events, I’m postponing it. Instead I’m sharing a quick thought on the assassination attempt and some other important political news that you may have missed.
Where were you when you heard the news that someone tried to kill Donald Trump?
This may very well be one of those moments in American history that grounds us in time and place and is talked about for decades to come.
Trump is “fine” according to his campaign staff. This moment in history is not as tragic, nor as monumental, as it could have been. But, I keep thinking, what if the bullet hadn’t grazed Trump’s ear but pierced his skull? What if the videos all over social media and news outlets right now were high resolution images of that horror? Would “parental controls” keep a nation’s teenagers from viewing such violence? Once you’ve seen something of that magnitude, you can’t unsee it.
I’m glad my kids don’t have internet connected devices and that my husband and I had the chance to preview the videos of the assassination attempt before my kids woke up Sunday morning. Today, I’m praying for the family of the man who died and being thankful that millions children across our nation weren’t subjected to watching a graphic, violent video of a Presidential candidate being gravely wounded.
Last week I wrote an additional article about some breaking news in Virginia, but in keeping to my word to only send one e-mail a week, many of you may not have seen it. I hope you’ll check it out anyway:
Thanks for reading. If you find this content to be a useful resource, please share it with friends, family and church leaders. I’ve been blown away by the positive responses over the past month. Next week I’ll be sharing 10 reasons why smartphones aren’t smart for teenagers (and I’m not even going to mention social media)!
